Miniature Train Ride
Climb aboard our miniature train for a 20-minute ride through 10 acres of Pacific Northwest forest at Station 49 in Birch Bay, WA. With 1.5 miles of track, a 60-foot tunnel, and dozens of hand-carved wooden sculptures by a local artist lining the route, this is one of the most unique family attractions in Whatcom County. There's nothing else like it in the region.
The track is lined with dozens of hand-carved wooden sculptures created by a local professional artist. Around every bend there's something new to spot — kids love trying to find them all. Scenes and carvings include:
- Themed villages — a beach scene, jungle, lumberjack camp, fishing hole, a castle, pirate ships, & more
- Animals — buffalo, elephants, giraffes, crocodiles, snakes, octopus, and many more
- Cabins and miniature houses tucked into the trees
Beyond the carvings, the train takes you through:
- A 60-foot tunnel
- Bridges and railroad crossings
- Towering evergreens and natural forest scenery
- Past the go kart track
It's like a scavenger hunt on rails — exciting for kids and genuinely relaxing for adults. One of those rare attractions every age group enjoys equally.

A Birch Bay Original
Station 49 has been running miniature trains through these woods since 1990. The train ride is a beloved tradition for families in Whatcom County — many of our riders today first rode as kids and now bring their own children. It's the kind of experience you don't find at a typical amusement park.
